The index of citation represents the number of citations per article, standardized for each area of science (in this case, psychiatry and psychology), out of all universities/institutions who have published at least 25 articles over 5 years. It therefore shows both quality and quantity of research in mental health within Japan. Please note that the so-called top two universities in Japan, Kyoto and Tokyo Universities, do publish many but they are not as often cited as those published by us. We are the top runner in mental health research in central Japan.

Nagoya City University is indeed one of the best medical schools in Japan in terms of both health sciences and life sciences research, according to the University Ranking 2008 and Scopus (Elsevier). The number of citations per article in health sciences (left column) and in life sciences (right column) places us at the 3rd and the 2nd, respectively, of all the research institutions in Japan, proudly in front of the traditional big state-protected universities such as Tokyo, Kyoto or other Universities.
